NotesfromNovemberMeeting.RonWildermuthoftheOrangeCountyWaterDistrictoutlinedtheconcernsaboutfuturewateravailability. Hementionedthatastronautshavestatedtwothingsarevisiblewiththenakedeyefromspace;theGreatWallofChinaandthewatercanalsofCalifornia. Wehave1-2yearsbeforewaterneedsreachthecrisislevel. Muchoftheinfrastructurethatsupportswaterdeliveryisover75yearsoldandinneedofrepair. Damagetoamajorcanalfromanearthquakeorothercatastrophecouldresultinsevereshortagesinstantly. Weneedtoinvestinconservation,oceandesalting,andreplacinginfrastructureandagricultureefficiency. AninterestingstatisticisAgricultureuses43%ofthewaterandpays$20peracre-foot. Urbanusersuse11%ofthewaterandpay$500peracre-foot. Thisreflectstheinfluenceofagricultureinstatepoliticsandthepoweritmaintains.
