Chaplain’s Message to the Members:
“For it is time for
judgment to begin with the family of God: and if it is hard
for the righteous to be saved, what will become of the
ungodly and the sinners?” (1 Peter 4:17-18 NIV translation)
If we can be of service to you, please give us a
call.

Commander’s Corner:
Walter Witt
conducted the installation of the Post officers at the June
meeting. Thanks
Walt! Thank you
again to the Post officers for volunteering for another
year. Before
the installation “Ace” Palmer, the magician, did some
amazing tricks.
I’m still trying to figure out where the baby chicks came
from. I
participated in that trick…it was amazing!!
As of this writing time, the Boys State participants
are in Sacramento.
The girls will be in Claremont next week for Girls
State. The
American Legion State Convention is underway in Bakersfield.
When everyone gets home from the convention we will
get the new 2011 cards to distribute.
Renewal notices (sent out by higher headquarters)
will start arriving at your house beginning in July.
Please consider renewing early as it prevents further
notices and reduces confusion.
Our Post sponsored LTC (USA, Ret)(our Post member and
FUHS JROTC Instructor)
Mike Albertson
to attend the Third Annual “Veteran of the Year” Luncheon in
Sacramento. He
was hosted by 72nd District Assemblyman Chris
Norby and his office staff.
It was June 23rd and we’ll have Mike give
us a short talk about what happened there.
As we begin our new year I hope that you will find an
opportunity to participate.
Our activities are both rewarding and worthwhile.
We have a unique and special Post filled with great
people. Bring
your special someone too.
Come and enjoy some time together.
Thanks again for a great 2009/10.
I look forward to a productive and fun 2010/11.
DD 214/Discharge Papers:
Do you know where your discharge papers are?
Does your family know where they are?
We often hear from families that they don’t know
where they are.
Without this important document your burial benefits will be
delayed several weeks unnecessarily.
If you plan to be buried in a national cemetery, it
won’t happen, until proof is given to the cemetery.
Please give a copy to someone or let your next of kin
know where to find them.
The 2011 year will begin 1 July.
If you have not paid your 2010 dues, you need to send
it in ASAP. If
you pay for 2011 without paying for 2010, your Continuous
Years will start at one (1)
year again.

Notes from June
Meeting
1st Vice Commander George Miller
then introduced the featured speaker for the night, and Johnny Ace Palmer
entertained the audience with his phenomenal close-up magic skills.
Palmer is famous within the worldwide magical community for his
prodigious sleight-of-hand abilities.
One routine for which he has became famous for, and one he performed
on Tuesday night, was a version of the Cups & Balls in which the final load is
three live baby chicks.
Palmer's skills won him the title of world-champion magician. In so
doing, he became the first close-up magician in history to receive the Grand
Prix award, and only the second American to win.
This award is given out only once every three years.
Palmer’s home base
for nearly two decades has remained suburban Los Angeles.
Last year, Palmer was
featured in an episode of the TV series
Masters of Illusion, which aired in March, 2009, and on May 20th
of this year, he was featured on the David Letterman show.
After a short recess,
Adjutant Ed Paul updated all
Legionnaires on what was the best Memorial Day Ceremony to date at the Loma
Vista Memorial Park. Volunteers
worked all weekend, in a great outpouring of support emplacing over 3,700
crosses on the graves of fallen veterans.
All work was accomplished in record time, but special thanks go to his
wife Pansy, who helped him every step of the way.
The event was extensively covered in local papers and the Orange County
Register has posted many pictures on its website:
www.ocregister.com
After all newly appointed
post officers were sworn in by Past
Commander Walt Witt; Chaplain Jim
Howland updated post members on the status of legionnaires that need support
and prayers.
Special Events Officer Don Dutton
reminded everyone about the OC Flyers Family night on Saturday, June 26th.
At noon on the 26th, time has been set aside for family
picnics at the Cal State Fullerton stadium.
At 1 PM, a baseball game with vets from the Army and Air Force will play
and likely defeat vets form the Navy and Marines.
A double-header baseball (OC Flyers vs. Chico Outlaws) game starts at 5
PM. Camouflaged jerseys will be
auctioned off during the game and all proceeds will go to “Operation Gratitude”
for our troops overseas. Flyers
fans will also write 5,000 “Thank You Cards” that will also be sent to troops
that are deployed overseas. Also,
on Saturday, 17 July, the Flyers will host a double headers starting at 5:05 PM
and their next home game will be on Friday, 20 August at 7:07 PM. More
information is available at the OC Flyers website:
www.OrangeCountyFlyers.com or
call 714-526-8326.
In closing,
Commander Marilyn Harris thanked all
present for another fun meeting, and all were reminded that the Fullerton city
manager, Chris Meyer, will be featured at our next meeting on Tuesday, July 13th.
