Chaplain’s Message to the Members:  “How can a young person stay pure? By obeying your word and following its rules.  I have tried my best to find you—don’t let me wander from your commands.” (Psalm 119:9-10, NLT)  If we can be of service to you, please give us a call.  Jim Howland and Hal Dixon

Commander’s Corner:   If you missed the February meeting, I hope you’ll be able to get to a meeting in the next couple of months.  They will be special.  We saw a real Emmy and walked down memory lane with pictures of the Chicago Cubs and their “Cubby” fans.  Great meeting!!  Thank you George Miller.  I will be sending the Continuous Membership Certificates by mail and before the March meeting, so watch for them if you were listed in the newsletter for reaching one of those five year milestone years.  The last weeks of February George Miller, Jeff Harris, and I will be interviewing candidates from our local public high schools for the Girls State (June 22-28), Youth Environmental Leadership Conference (YELC, May 16-19), and Boys State (June 21-28) programs.  The YELC program is sponsored through the American Legion but taught by the US Forestry Service and focuses on environmental planning.  It is exclusive to California and was set up in trust by a Legionnaire with a heart for the environment.  It also provides for scholarships for attendees when they pursue science studies in college.  Girls State is back in Claremont.  I can’t tell you how glad I am for that.  Fresno was not an ideal city to hold this event, especially since no one up higher would coordinate transportation.  So…until Girls State can get up to Sacramento, we’re glad for Claremont.  Thank you again to the Commander’s Club for providing the funding for these and other important programs we do here in the Post.  We are in a “holding pattern” in regard to our participation in FACES of Fullerton, (April 26th)  The FACES event is in transition without City funds, so we are waiting for the committee to settle on a reasonable fee structure for booth space.  If that does not occur, we will sit out this year.  Railroad Days is right around the corner after that (May 3/4).  Sign up sheets will be available at the April meeting.  Once again Bill Hessen and Kendall Neseiss are getting ready for the end of year student awards.  We are blessed to have them serving our Post in these programs.  The Post election is coming soon.  If you would like to serve in the Post, please talk to Ed Paul or one of the committee members before the election.  To see all the exciting pictures of Post activities, visit the Post website at fullertonpost142.com.  Thank you to Richard Wakefield for his tireless efforts to make a great site.

Please jot this number down in case someone you know needs it. 800-342-9647 or www.militaryonesource.com.  It is the number that all active service members can call 24/7 for help of all kinds.  Their slogan is “You name it.  We can help.”

Upcoming Events:  The officer’s meeting is always the Wednesday prior to the Post meeting and the Post meetings are always on the second Tuesday.  The next few monthly meetings are:  April 8, May 13 and June 10th.  Please mark your calendars.

Membership rosters are available for a small charge to cover reproduction.  Call Richard Wakefield.  We can send one in the mail for those unable to make it to the meetings or he can email the roster to you at no charge.  Just as a reminder, the rosters are for personal use only and should be destroyed when they are too old to be reliable.

Notes from February Meeting:

Our two speakers gave excellent presentations. Barbara Bowman won three National Emmys for editing the Olympics. She then became a marketing executive and producer for the ABC TV Network and remains active in entertainment endeavors.  She is currently working on the Oscar ceremony for later this month.  She said that what you see isn’t usually live but tapes of what they accumulate over several hours on the red carpet.  Tammy Lechner is a professional photojournalist. Her first book was “In the Cal in 1994 about life in the California minor leagues.  Her latest book, 'Our Team, Our Dream' honors the 'great American pass-time' and one of America's favorite teams, the Chicago Cubs. She spent several years with the team to accumulate the stories and pictures.  The Cub fans in attendance really enjoyed the stories and hope this is their year for glory. It has been 100 years since the Cubs won the World Series.

Minutes for the December meeting and financial report were reviewed and approved as presented.

Commander Harris reported on Faces of Fullerton participation, Railroad Days, Boys and Girls State and Youth Environmental Conference interviews.

Chaplain Jim Howland gave us an update on members not able to be with us.  Jim also did our Four Chaplains tribute.  This is done at our February meeting to honor the four Chaplains of different faiths that gave up the life vests so four others could live.  They were last seen locking arms as the Dorchester sank below the surface.

Ist. VC George Miller reported our guest speaker for March will be the Consul from Ireland.   Wear green!
